It is ninety plus years since my mum sat on the doorstep of her grandmother’s shoe-shop eating her prized Ice cream rewards. Ever since that time our family has had a special thing for Ice-creams.(See ice-creams page 19) All this came flooding back to me last week when I found myself sitting in a picture theatre eating a prized ice-cream treat. Yvette had won three tickets to the preview of a new movie including drinks, popcorn and the new Village Theatres 60th Anniversary Choc-Top. (Which by the way was delicious salted caramel.) King Solomon said 3000 years ago that there is nothing new under the sun and the longer I live I can see it’s true. I’m sure I experienced as much pleasure eating that reward as my mum did all those years ago.
Tomorrow we all start a new year and though in some ways it’s a fresh page and a new start, in reality it is a continuation of our life thus far. Our Joys and sorrows, our pain and grief, our successes and failures over this past year and the preceding ones, have all contributed to make us the people we are today. In our family we had a very tough 2014 and we are glad to see the back of it. However, we know that God has put resources within us that are as yet untapped. There is more to learn, to explore and to experience, so we are going into 2015 expecting more joys and less sorrow, expecting to grow and expand our horizons and to enjoy more of the simple pleasures of life. You are welcome to join us.
