At the Alfred Hospital earlier in the week Doug and Yvette each a book to read, being between books I thought I’d just manage with the magazines in the waiting room. When we arrived we found a couple of bookcases laden with second hand books. For a $2 donation you could help yourself. Being fond of Biography’s I scanned the shelves. There were only two biographies, one was Lance Armstrong’s, (I don’t think so) the other was Greg Norman’s, (no thanks). I was just about to give up when I saw Katharine Hepburn’s book titled ‘Me – Stories of my life’. Ah! I thought this will be short stories, good for reading in a waiting room.  Well was I in for a treat? She was so refreshing, with no particular style she just recorded things as she thought of them, even the prologue is a delight. She was eighty four years old when it was published in 1991.  Commencing with her remarkable parents she starts to tell her story.  I haven’t had the time to read much but I have already laughed out loud and cried a little on the inside. I am telling you this because she makes an observation regarding a decision her father made which is worth repeating. This is it:- “When you have a choice you must be careful not to go down a road just because you had planned to. If you have a choice, be careful to be influenced only by what is best in the long run.” So! I thought I’d share it.Image
