All good things come to those who wait???

Today I found my self uttering the words ‘all good things come to those who wait’ and wondered where they actually came from. Apparently it is an old English traditional proverb (not from the Bible) and was quoted extolling the virtue of patience. Whilst there is much in the Bible about patience and hope and good things coming they are not necessarily promised in this life, some are eternal. Used by Abraham Lincoln as far back as 1865 no one knows where they actually originated.

However According to the London Daily Telegraph of April 2010 experts claim to have pinpointed a circuit in the brain which tells the human mind to delay seeking immediate satisfaction.  A person has the ability to resist an on the spot reward and delay it for months or even years if it means a better return in the future, the researchers claimed.

Well it’s like this, last July I had my wedding rings cut from my finger because of my knuckles. Buying a ring to fit over an enlarged knuckle and neatly around ones finger without spinning is almost impossible. For ten months I have been bare handed looking like Doug had deserted me. You already know what I am going to say, don’t you?  Today I walked into our little jewellers at Endeavour Hills and there was the perfect ring. With Doug cheering me on I ordered a copy in a larger size. I had to back my own judgment and pay 50% up front knowing that there will be no refund. However, I know it’s going to be just perfect costing only $8 more that the amount which has been earmarked for it all this time.. How about that? Who said, ‘all good things come to those who wait?’ I did!
